1st 2nd 3rd 4th Final
Hyde Phoenix 13 12 6 12 43
HVC Knights 7 4 8 7 26
The Hyde Phoenix traveled 100 miles north to Bangor, ME to compete once again against the Highview Christian Knights. As a result of injuries in our previous game against Rangeley, the Phoenix had only 9 on the bench and everyone was able to see time on the floor.
From the first whistle, it was clear Highview Christian was ready to compete with a vengeance and had significantly improved since the last time Hyde faced them. While Hyde outscored the Knights in the first and second quarters, HVC stayed right in it and never let down. Their girls showed immense hustle and heart and capitalized on some of Hyde’s turnovers and mistakes. After halftime, it was the Knight’s turn to outscore the Phoenix and made an admirable run backed by a loud and proud hometown crowd. The Phoenix were ahead going into the fourth and improved on moving the ball up the court on offense and were able to score off of their press break. As a result, Hyde closed out the game with a victory but HVC certainly gave us a run for our money!
Without our point guard, Lilli Allen ’17, Jill Tolman ’16, Timesha Walker ’17, and Allie Grover ’17 needed to step up in the one spot and take control of bringing the ball up as well as shutting down HCV best player #23 Kelsea McDonald on defense. Tolman had great hustle on defense, Walker had some great assists on offense, and Grover sunk two shots in the fourth quarter to seal the deal. Diamond Brown ’16 was the high scorer of the game with 14 points and behind her was Emma Levensohn ’17 with 10 points and Lutes Bartlett ‘16 contributed 8. Cherry Weng ’17, Merrill Truluck ’18, and Willow Beavis ’17 also stepped into the game and did a great job jumping in on defense, working the ball on offense, and looking to pull down rebounds.
All in all Highview Christian was a great host and we applaud their hustle and heart on the court last night!
Next up: Tomorrow, Saturday, at Isleboro at 11 am.
