Phoenix Struggle in Victory over NYA
1st 2nd 3rd 4th Final
Hyde Phoenix 6 13 6 14 39
NYA Panthers 4 9 7 6 26
Sometimes when it comes to competition, teams win games about which they don’t feel especially good, and sometimes they lose games about which they are quite proud. The former was the case on Tuesday night when the Hyde Phoenix traveled to Yarmouth to take on the NYA Panthers. In spite of earning a 39-26 victory that improved the team’s season record to 7-0, the Phoenix honestly recognized that this was a relatively poor performance based on the overall lack of hustle and enthusiasm displayed. The team often speaks about “controlling its own destiny” which becomes its measuring stick for gauging its game to game performances. Has the team done all that it can to be successful on a given night? Credit to the Panthers for the hard-fought game that they played and the true test that they provided the Phoenix. With that said, in the locker room after the game, the primary focus for the team was to figure out what could be learned from the night’s lackluster performance and how to get back on track. In terms of some highlights from the contest, it was a pleasure to welcome back Jr. Jill Tollman ’16 whose hustle and hard work can always be counted on. Also, Jr. Kristine Bailey ’16 came off the bench to provide a spark during a critical 14-6 run in the 4th quarter to ensure victory. Jr. Lutes Bartlett ’16 scored 6 points, and So. Lilli Allen ‘17 led all scorers with 17 points, including three 3-pointers.
