St. Thomas More: 52
Hyde Boys Varsity Basketball hosted St. Thomas More, a team that had beaten them early in the season. Right from the start, Damon Gomes ’15 attacked the basket nonstop, bothering the opposition. He made it known he was business, and was going to have a huge role in this game. Throughout the entire first half, Hyde was able to maintain a solid lead, clearly frustrating St. Thomas Mores players.
In the beginning of the second half, STM made an obvious effort to come out with more energy and made several runs. Kris Carroll ’16 came away with 11 points, hitting big shots and making free throws.
Other notable performances were Dexter Thompson ’15, with 16 points, showing athleticism and the ability to hit contested shots. Damon Gomes finished the game with 18 points, 10+ assists and at least 5 rebounds in what was one of his best performances this season. Eamonn Joyce Jr. ’16 continues to make progress, using his size to protect the rim and intimidate opposing offenses.
It was a much needed win that shows the progress the team is making. They hope to build off of this performance and perform well in what is surely going to be a competitive game on Sunday against St. Andrews Prep Team at the BallasTV Invite.
