The Hyde Phoenix welcomed the Valley Cavaliers and their fans to campus Thursday afternoon for a key matchup that would significantly impact the MPA girls basketball standings.  After overcoming a sluggish start in what was quite a defensive first half, the Phoenix capitalized on a decisive 10-3 third quarter advantage to capture an exciting 34-26 victory and improve their season record to 5-0.   The Phoenix team defense was key as it held its opponent to 9 points in the second half.  Jr. Lutes Bartlett ‘16 played a big part as she tallied a team-high 7 rebounds in the paint, while So. Emma Levenshon ’17 continued her hustle and hard work on both ends of the court and contributed 4 points.  Co-captains, Lilli Allen ’17 and Diamond Brown ’16 led the offense with 12 points each, while So. Timesha Walker ’17 added 6 points to the team total.   Afterwards in the locker room, the team recognized that its performance was not its best of the season, but that fighting through the struggle and gaining the victory should prove useful in building the character of the team.  This Phoenix team is working to selflessly identify its personality while it takes steps to maximize its collective potential.  There is much work yet to be done.
