Late Surge Pushes St. Luke’s Past Wolfpack Boys Varsity Team

Hyde: 55

St. Luke’s: 60

Hyde traveled to New Canaan to take on one of the more impressive teams in Class C, looking to continue their journey towards the Class C Championship.
Hyde played the first half with a passion and energy previously unseen, starting the game on a 14-2 run, the highlight being a connection between Damon Gomes ’15 and Dexter Thompson ’15 for a high flying alley oop that even got cheers from the St. Luke’s home crowd. St Luke’s made many small runs, but Hyde seemed to always have an answer, one of them being two first half 3’s from guard Kris Carroll ’16. Going into halftime, Hyde had a 7 point lead.

Hyde started the second half strong, maintaining a lead and even increasing it to 12 at one point, but St. Luke’s was able to match and surpass the energy brought on from Hyde. Damon Gomes was able to keep the team in the game late, consistently getting to the basket which resulted in lay ups or made free throws. Unfortunately, St. Luke’s was in the double bonus and refused to miss at the charity stripe.
Dexter Thompson ’15 finished with 20 points, Damon Gomes ’15 had 16 points and Kris Carroll ’16 chipped in with 11.
It was a very tough loss that will count against Hyde’s playoff placement. Although it was a loss, there were many things seen from this game that the team hadn’t shown before, coming out with more athleticism and passion. They hope to learn from this game and translate it to an immediate victory against St. Thomas More today.
