On our first meet back from break it was clear we needed to brush off some cobwebs. The trio of shot putters, Christian Bassette, Kevin Wang, and Victor Wright lost a foot or two from their throws in the first meet but still finished in the middle of the 26 person field. The same is true for the efforts of Christian and Victor in the 55yd dash where they finished a bit slower than the last time around. They did score points in both events against every team with the exception of Tantasqua. Distance runners Bill Lin and Ivan Xu both ran hard fought races, improved on their times and packed a few points away for the Wolfpack. Bill took out up front in the 1000m and did his best to hang in there. While he fell off pace in the final laps he showed he could be a strong competitor in the event.
On the girl’s side, both Melissa Leventhal and Alexis Bourgoin attended their first meet. Great learning attitudes, positivity, and hard work were demonstrated by both throughout. It was impressive to see our team of two putting points up against teams of 50 or more. Alexis ran an excellent race in the 1000m shortly after racing her first mile of the season. She was able to hang on to the lead pack in the 1000m until the final laps and with a bit more training she could be a top level competitor in our league. She finished in the top 15 of about 30 in both of her events.
