Hyde-Woodstock “Faculty League” Showdown Highlights

Unique Potential conveniently scheduled a game the night that all the students were are notoriously the craziest, and it pitted them up against undefeated and league leaders FC Lancers. Out of the gates, Unique Potential were sluggish which we will chalk up to being far too jolly after spending quality time with Saint Nick.  After falling into a quick 2-0 hole, Unique Potential began to click.  Christie “Twinkle Toes” Barnes sent a high, hard one into the top shelf to get one back to bring the lead to 2-1.  FC Lancers got a third, but Unique Potential came roaring back.  Kayla “Pomfret Rocket” Sheehan strategically placed a shot to split the keeper’s hands from about 20 yards out, followed up by Charles “First-Class Flyer” Escalante as he capitalized on a blunder by the keeper.  The score was tied 3-3 rolling into the 2nd half.

Strong defensive efforts and great ball movement by John “#HydeSelfie #HydeFamily” Rigney, and Jackie “Ms. Claus” Lemme kept FC Lancers’ strong offense at bay.  John did attempt to take a selfie with every member of the opposing team, but his efforts were quickly thwarted.  Amanda “I’m Too Short For Them to See Me” Fuller played solid defense much of the second half on one of their biggest offensive threats, not allowing him to be effective.  Nick “The Narrator” Nowak gave Unique Potential the 4-3 lead part way through the 2nd half.  Hard work on the offensive end from Peter “The Wyoming Wonder” Bugoni and Tom “I Already Know My Secret Santa” Draper almost added to Unique Potential’s tally.  Unfortunately, Unique Potential could not sustain the lead and allowed 2 goal, the final one coming with under 4 minutes to play.  An offensive flurry in the final 30 seconds came up empty and FC Lancers’ topped Unique Potential 5-4.  Overall, we came away proud of our hard work as it was the best game we have collectively played all year, though it came against the most skilled team we have faced this year.

Man of the Match (not to be out done by his stellar Santa performance) went to Russ “Mr. Claus” Varney.  He stood on his head all game long and kept the game close, coming up with miraculous save after miraculous save.

Now the league goes on break for 2 weeks and we all get fat and out of shape for our next game which is slated to be against neighboring rival, the Griffins of Pomfret on January 8th.

From Unique Potential, Happy Holidays everyone!
