Hyde-Woodstock vs. Pomfret
Boys Varsity Basketball traveled locally to Pomfret in what was expected to be a very competitive game. From the opening tip, it became clear that Woodstock was a skilled team, and Pomfret was going to have to match that skill with intensity and hustle. After the first half, Hyde was down 13, committing several turnovers. Despite being down, they managed to get back into the game in the second half with a few little runs, although they could not maintain a lead due to very poor free throw shooting all around.
Dexter Thompson ’15 had his best scoring output this season, coming up with 25 points and pulling down several rebounds. Eamonn Joyce Jr. ’16 did a great job defensively while also adding 17 of his own, despite an off shooting night from long range. Damon Gomes ’15 added 12 points, keeping his defender on his toes at all times with constant penetration into the paint and getting to the rim. Jack Payne ’15 checked into the game in the first half and added instant energy on defense, along with Harrison Smith ’15, both pulling down big rebounds and showing major aggressiveness. Kris Carroll ’16 came off the bench and showed significant improvement, finishing with 5 points and crashing the boards many times.
It was a tough loss, but there was much taken out of the game. The team looks forward to playing against Salisbury, on December 17th.
