Last Thursday Hyde traveled to St. Andrews to compete in their final game of the season. The girls went into the game with hopes of leaving it all on the field and playing for the seniors as it was their final game of their high school careers. When Emma Deary forgot her jersey, Fances O’neil selflessly gave up her uniform and chances of getting in the game so that Emma could compete in her final game. This was the kind of team play that the girls hoped to translate onto the field. Unfortunately, St. Andrews scored a few goals right off the bat and this left the Hyde team flat and complacent. They finished the match but never brought the spark that we had seen during the family weekend and the Rocky Hill game earlier in the season. Despite the despicable score, the team play and concern that was shown by the selflessness of Frances and the courage of Lila Paulson who stepped into goal to relieve senior Hui Seow and make some phenomenal saves, were highlights on the day.
The girls had a productive debrief of their season Monday and committed to enjoying the next 2 weeks of practice together before starting Winter sports. The team had a win on the day today when all members of the squad finished the timed mile under 10 minutes. This was a huge improvement from the timed mile in the beginning of the season and was a great way to see how far the girls have come this season.
