Hyde School 3
Kents Hill 0
Kents Hill School traveled to Bath to play the first game of the Boys Varsity Soccer MAISAD tournament on Wednesday. The match was played under partly sunny skies and unseasonably warm temperatures on the turf field.
In the 6th minute James Kellogg`16 worked the ball down the left wing deep into the offensive third of the field. He was fouled outside the box and received a free kick as a result. Post graduate Abdibaari Hersi served a hard ball across the front of the goal and forward Ben Mooney`16 scored with a driven header to the back post. The score at the half was 1-0.
There was much back and forth play at the start of the second half. After a number of Hyde shots went wide of the goal, Captain Kiefer Cundy`15 found the back of the net in the 64th minute off a James Kellogg`16 assist. The third goal came in the 86th minute when winger Dylan Budd`16 crossed the ball in to Kiefer Cundy`15 who settled the ball in the central part of the box and shot a well-placed ball to score. Other notable play came from the defensive unit consisting of Captain Andrew Davis`15 at centerback, Dow Drukker`15 at stopper, David Wu`15 at left fullback and Brandon Nelson`16 at right fullback.
This was a great result, as it allows the team to advance to the finals on Friday November 7th with Hebron Academy. That match will be played at 2:30 at home on the turf field. Given the history between these two teams, it promises to be an exciting game.
