Tough Loss for Phoenix Girls Varsity Soccer vs High Mowing, 1-2

October 29, 2014

Hyde – 1

High Mowing – 2

Hyde returned to Exeter, New Hampshire for the second year to face the High Mowing School on neutral ground.  The team arrived and after a very brief warm-up took the field.  It was a very difficult game for the Phoenix.  Despite significantly outshooting their opponent, they were unable to find the back of the net.  Jill Tolman ’15 served several threatening balls inside the High Mowing box that went unfinished.  Strikers Gigi Chen ’15 and Jenny Balter ’15 worked very hard but couldn’t seem to track the ball down.  Late in the first half High Mowing scored on a breakaway, what was only their second shot on net, making it 1-0 at the half.

The second half started very sluggish for the Phoenix as they soon found themselves down by another goal.  They began to find some momentum after midfielder Kristine Bailey ’16 scored on a left footed shot just inside the box.  Her goal was the result of a game’s worth of hard work and effort, one of her best of the season.  Emma Levensohn ’17 served several excellent corner kicks, one that senior captain Avery Booth ’15 narrowly missed for a chance to tie the game.  Unfortunately, time ran out and the Phoenix were unable to equalize.
