Last Friday the Hyde Varsity Girls Soccer team put on a spectacular show for their fans and families. The game started off on a less positive note as the girls’ tendency to start slow once again proved detrimental and set them back 2 goals 15 minutes into the game. Luckily the team did not give up and used their strength in the midfield to push the ball forward. Hyde got back into the game when Alexis Bourgoin dribbled through multiple defenders to ultimately find the back of the net. This goal lit the fire the team needed and they continued to attack. 10 mintues after Bourgoin’s goal, Tina She made an outstanding challenge for the ball in the 18 and got taken down, giving the Wolfpack a much needed penalty kick. Doussou Ndaiye stepped up to take the kick. It deflected off the goalie but luckily Ndaiye aggressively chased her shot and finished the ball on her second touch. The team was excited and energized going into the second half with hopes of their first win of the season. Unfortunately PCD scored twice in the second half but Hyde did not give the goals away easily and had multiple opportunities throughout the game.
It was a great step of progress for the Wolfpack as they proved their resiliency and passion. Stand outs on the day were Tina She who started her first varsity game and proved to be a valuable asset to the frontline with her controlled touch and smart back passes. Maya Steindler led the defense in pushing up and being more of a presence on the attacking side. Emma Deary held down the fort on defense with solid tackles and precise clears. Proving what a little bit of determination and effort can bring, Maddie O’Conor made a statement and led the team with her hard work and constant pressure of the ball up top. All in all it was a positive day for the Hyde Varsity Girls Soccer team and they look forward to building upon this success in their final two games of the season this week.
