Phoenix Girls V Soccer Best Sister School 5-0

GIRLS VARSITY SOCCER vs Hyde Woodstock

October 18, 2014

Hyde Bath – 5

Hyde Woodstock – 0

The Phoenix hosted their sister school and rivals Woodstock in front of a family weekend crowd this past Saturday.  Having won their first game of the season the week prior, it was a much anticipated game for Bath.  Both squads took the field with intensity and the game remained scoreless for the opening ten minutes.  Junior captain Jill Tolman ’16 broke the silence with a strong, unassisted breakaway goal.  It would prove to be an exciting day for her as she went on to score three more goals in the game.  The Phoenix dominated play but struggled to find composure early on.  Kelsey Talbutt ’16 led the team from the sweeper position confidently turning back the Wolfpack offense.  Marking back Merrill Truluck ’18 played an outstanding game shutting down her mark while carrying the ball end to end several times.  Mid-way through the second half, Hannah Howes ’17 struck the ball outside the box for the fourth goal of the game and her first of the season.  Perhaps most inspiring was seeing the return of senior Heaven Redd ’15 who played an outstanding game at outside midfield.  The Phoenix have a week to prepare for the MAISAD powerhouse Gould Academy.
