Hyde School: 2
Boys Varsity Soccer traveled to Weston Massachusetts on Saturday to play a match with The Cambridge School of Weston. The game was played on their natural grass pitch under sunny skies and warm autumn conditions.
Hyde moved the ball well from the start of the match. Mid-fielders James Kellog`16 and Captain Kiefer Cundy`15 controlled the attacking campaigns with the help of wingers, post grad Abdibaari Hersi on the left, and Dylan Budd`16 on the right. By keeping the ball forward in the attacking third of the field they were able to create numerous scoring opportunities, sending the ball in to forwards James Lee`15 and Ben Mooney`16. In the 24thminute James Lee`16 received the ball from right winger Dylan Budd`16 and kicked a looping chip shot from the right side just outside the box. What initially looked like a cross into the area resulted in a goal when it found the upper left corner of the goal. Hyde had more shots in the remainder of the half, but the game remained 1-0 at the break.
Two minutes into the second half, left fullback David Wu`15 lofted a ball in to Kiefer Cundy`15 who was just right of center, in the box. Cundy`15 settled the ball and drove it on goal to score, making it 2-0. Weston had a few chances in the second half, but strong defensive play by Captain Andrew Davis`15, Dow Drukker`15, David Wu`15 and Brandon Nelson`16 combined with solid play from keeper/Captain Noah Horning`15 kept the sheet clean.
The next match is on Wednesday October 29th at home against Gould Academy at 3:00. The team will spend time working on shooting and finishing in the two practice leading up to it. They have done a good job of creating more scoring opportunities, but too many shots have gone wide or over the top of the goal.
