Wolfpack GVS Battles Sister School with Heart & Hustle

After the team’s best showing all season vs. Rocky Hill last Wednesday, the Hyde Varsity Girl’s team was looking forward to building upon their success and getting their first win of the season Saturday afternoon vs. their sister school up in Bath. Unfortunately, the girls did not play with the confidence or drive they had showed last week. Whether it was still being mentally on the bus or the fear of a team that was much bigger in size,  the team’s complacency led to 3 quick goals for Bath in the first half. Going into half-time, the team finally showed 10 minutes of improved play. Doussou Ndaiye and Hui-ling Seow both rallied the team with inspiring words and the team committed to laying it all out on the field for the latter part of the game. They stuck to their word and showed heart and hustle to hold Bath to only 2 goals and had multiple opportunities of their own in the 2nd half.

Standouts included Katherine Li who stepped in at right back and showed constant pressure and effort resulting in some much needed defensive stops. Leah Taylor proved herself once again as one of the team’s most consistent and aggressive players as she held down the defense at sweeper. Tracy He had two wonderful break away opportunities on goal which sadly found the goalie’s hands instead of the back of the net. The girls were reminded once again of the importance of the basics and showing up. They look forward to a solid couple days of practice and hope to put out a better team effort this Wednesday vs. Lincoln.
