Hyde School 1
Kents Hill 0
Boys Varsity Soccer traveled to Kents Hill Maine to play a MAISAD match with Kents Hill School on Saturday. The game was played on their turf field under sunny autumn conditions.
The Hyde boys started the game well, moving the ball and maintaining possession. In the 14th minute captain Andrew Davis`15 took a long free-kick from the right side and connected with Gatouch Pan`17 who headed it into the goal. Play was back and forth for the remainder of the half, with both teams having chances to score. However, the score remained 1-0 at the half-time break. The Phoenix struggled to find their stride in the second half. There was good individual effort from captain Kiefer Cundy`15 at center-mid, Andrew Davis`15 at centerback and Dow Drukker`15 at stopper. Despite this senior leadership, the team had difficulty developing synergy and maintaining possession. This allowed the opposition to find their rhythm and create some nice chances to score on breakaways. Midway through the second half, captain Noah Horning`15 made a brilliant save, diving to his left, to maintain the lead.
This was a good result for the Hyde squad given that it was not their best game from a tactical point of view. In the coming week, the coaches and captains will be working to tighten up the team with regard to understanding individual roles and playing as a cohesive unit. The next match is Friday October 17th at home against the Wolfpack from Hyde Woodstock. As always, it promises to be an exciting one.
