Boys JV Soccer vs Kents Hill
Kents Hill: 3
On Saturday, the JV Soccer Phoenix piled onto a Bomar bus and traveled up to Kents Hill for a redemption match against the Huskies on their turf. It was a great afternoon that brought some great soccer. Central players Cooper Platt ’15 and Jesse Higgins ’16 were their reliable selves in the middle of play. And full backs Chris Lutts ’15 and James Scharpf ’16 added onto the attacks from their wing positions. The Phoenix would connect passes and build attacks on the Huskie defense well into their offensive third. The cage would be protected by keeper Greg Kidger ’17. Kidger would make some extraordinary saves throughout the afternoon, including a one-on-one breakaway stuff in the first half!
Lone attackman Louis Liu ’16 would try his best, but his efforts would come up empty in the first half, as well. The play would go back and forth for the first 39 minutes of play, until Hyde would momentarily lose their focus. A miss-hit goalkick and unprepared defenders allow the Huskies to tear right into the 18 and burry a shot into the side netting. The Phoenix would trail 1-0 at the half.
The Phoenix came back out energized and ready for the second half. Substitute Jayden Zhou ’16 would contribute some phenomenal play at the outside midfield position, receiving his most PT so far this year. But alas, Kent’s Hill’s offense would prevail and knock two more goals into the back of the net. Despite having more chances on target, earning more corner-kicks, and out-possessing Kent’s Hill, the Phoenix lost in the stat that counts the most. The final score would be 3-0.
The JV Phoenix are looking forward to their rematch against Thornton Academy on Wednesday, and the friendly rivalry against Woodstock on Family Weekend.
