On Saturday, Hyde hosted Evergreen League divisional opponent Hebron Academy. The Lumberjacks of Hebron struck first as they returned the opening kickoff for a score. After a successful two-point conversion run, the Wolfpack were down 8-0 with just a few seconds gone off the clock. At that point, it was clear that the SAT test, which about half of our team took yesterday, was going to have an impact on the game. The boys were able to put a couple drives together and eventually Jimmy Murphy ’15 scored on a ten yard run late in the first quarter. Tailback Marcus Greenidge ’17 had a great day running the ball and he was able to score his first touchdown of the season on a short off-tackle slam in the second quarter to give Hyde a 12-8 halftime advantage. In the third quarter, each team scored once; Hebron found the end-zone on a long pass and Greenidge scored again on a wide toss whileMurphy added the two-point conversion to close the scoring.
Hebron was a quality, tough opponent and Hyde was grateful to leave the field with a victory after a very physical day. The sportsmanship of both teams was fantastic. Hyde will get ready this week for a big game as we travel north to take on Holderness School at 2pm on Saturday.
