Boys Varsity Soccer vs Dexter
The sun was shining along with the Wolfpack as the boys battled for a 4-3 win over Dexter. Hyde struck early after Sean Pease ’15 netted a perfect chip on a breakaway throw-in from Kris Carroll ’16. Pease would later assist Jack Payne ’15, giving Hyde a 2-0 lead. Taking advantage of a defensive error, Dexter scored on a breakaway, but Payne notched his second goal of the day following a beautiful through ball from Brian Thornton ’16. With a 3-1 advantage at half, the boys knew they would have to keep their focus, but Dexter reaffirmed the theory of the most dangerous lead in soccer as they erased the 2 goal deficit with some convincing finishes. Nonetheless, Hyde did not back down, and Thornton brought an unexpected but greatly celebrated game-winning goal from about 40 yards out on a free kick. Thornton played a technical game and was a key component to the team’s offense, while Jason Zhao ’15 produced several key stops on defense with simple hard work. The two share man of the match for the day. With a week to prepare for the next opponent, the win provided the team with much needed momentum heading into the tail end of the season.
