Girls Varsity Soccer vs Rocky Hill
The girls hit the road Friday afternoon to take on Rocky Hill. The long drive and slow warm-up hurt the girls as they took 15 minutes to get their heads in the game. Rocky Hill capitalized on this and scored their first goal within the 10 minute mark. Despite going down a goal early on, the girls bounced back to fight hard for the ball and not give in. Alexis Bourgoin ’17 showed great confidence in her foot skills as she dribbled through the Rocky Hill back four and got a shot off to tie the score at 1-1 and put Hyde back in the game with 10 minutes left in the first half. Going into half time, the girls were very excited and confident that they could win this game.
Unfortunately, Rocky Hill came out on all cylinders in the second half and showed that they wanted the game more. It was a huge let down when Hyde got called for a season high 3 hand balls in the box. However, Hui Seow really showed her resilience when she saved 2 of the 3 subsequent PKs. Stand outs on the day were Katherine Li ’17 who made her Varsity soccer debut and did a great job pressuring the ball up top to give the team some real looks at goal and Joanna Ren ’16 who showed great hustle and ball control in the midfield. It was a disappointing loss for the team but it was great to see different players step up and make an impact on the field. We look forward to meeting Rocky Hill again in 2 weeks, hopefully next time with a different outcome.
