Phoenix Girls V Soccer Outmatched vs Berwick

September 30, 2014

 Hyde – 0

Berwick Academy – 8

Having endured a tough match during the pre-season Berwick jamboree, the girls knew they were in for a difficult game.  The Phoenix were hoping the home field location would help bolster enthusiasm, which it undoubtedly did.  Despite Berwick’s best efforts, they were held off for 15 minutes before finding the back of the net.  Captain sweeper Kelsey Talbutt ’16 continued to organize her defense, protecting an inexperienced Jill Tolman ’16 in goal.  Despite having only played the position a handful of times, she was able to make saves and distribute the ball well.  Marking backs Merrill Truluck ’18and Cherry Weng ’16 played another outstanding game, working hard to shut down their players.  Center mid-fielder Hannah Howes ’17 and senior Jenny Balter ’15 ran tirelessly making large contributions to the Phoenix offense and mid-field possession.  Berwick was able to take the first half by a large margin of six goals, but were held to only two additional goals in the second half.  Once again, the girls focus their efforts on improving as a squad and preparing for their next opponent.
