Wolfpack GVS Falls to Williams 1-14

Williams -14
Hyde- 1

After a promising win vs. the JV boys’ team in Friday’s practice, Saturday proved to be a tough game for the Hyde Girls soccer team. The team was not mentally there which resulted in many defensive breakdowns and few connections on offense.  Though the score suggests little victory on the day, there were signs of great courage and teamwork as many players tried new positions in order to fill holes left because of injury. Alexis Bourgoin had her first go at sweeper to replace Maya Steindler who is out due to a concussion. The team really misses Maya’s energy, leadership and aggression but Alexis did a good job stepping up.  Leah Taylor has moved all over the field this season and put a great effort in on the day at stopper. With 15 minutes left, Hui Seow needed a sub and Leila Paulsen stepped into goal. She did a phenomenal job with a couple crucial saves and showed great commitment to the team by putting on her gloves despite her doubts about the position.

Hyde’s goal came when Doussou Ndaiye made a run in the 18 and got fouled. It was Hyde’s first PK and Doussou finished it with style. It is extremely exciting that the girls have been able to find the net in the last two games. We look forward to more goals in the future.
