Great Effort for Wolfpack VF Despite 12-17 Loss to New Hampton

Hyde Varsity Football vs. New Hampton

Hyde: 12
New Hampton: 17

On Saturday, with a tremendous effort, the varsity football team fell 17-12 to Evergreen League power New Hampton School. I’ve been around Hyde-Woodstock football since 1999 and I would say this game was in the top 5 all time in terms of effort, sportsmanship, and the old adage “leave it all on field.”

Hyde scored twice in the first half. Both scores were halfback passes from Marcus Greenidge ’17 to Dexter Thompson ’15. With New Hampton’s commitment to stop the Wolfpack running game strong, we were able to sneak a receiver behind their coverage twice. New Hampton would also score twice in the first half in addition to returning a Hyde two-point conversion try back for 2 points. Thompson also had a key interception in the game. There was no scoring in the second half; it was a defensive battle of two teams determined to win the game. Hyde had a chance to score at the very end to take the lead but the stingy New Hampton defense denied the Wolfpack effort.

Our defense, once again, was outstanding. Here they are:

Defensive Tackle – Jared Labades ’15

Defensive Tackle – Leonard Moore ’15

Linebacker – Jimmy Murphy ’15

Linebacker – Jesse McKiernan ’15

Cornerback – Marcus Greenidge ’17

Cornerback – Dexter Thompson ’15

Free safety -Harrison Smith ’15

Linebacker –  Jack Greenberg ’15

Strong safety – John McMahon ’15

Defensive end – Justin Allard  ’16

Defensive end – Omri West ’16

Kevin Wang ’16, Jake Dickerson ’16 and Chris Darling ’15 all played big roles filling in on the line on this very hot afternoon. New comer Tim Patterson ’16 also contributed valuable minutes which allowed some starters to get a break.

This was an exciting game for all to watch and we’re certainly all proud of the effort and sportsmanship displayed on Saturday. Hyde will hit the road and head to Tilton, NH on Saturday in search of victory number two.
