Hyde School 6
High Mowing 0
Boys Varsity Soccer traveled to Exeter New Hampshire to play a match with The High Mowing School on Wednesday. The game was played on a natural grass pitch under sunny warm conditions.
Hyde scored early in the match when winger James Lee`15 passed the ball to forward Gatouch Pan`17. Gatouch Pan`17 got a second goal in the 7th minute off a Dylan Budd`16 assist. Midway through the first half, Ben Mooney`16 found the back of the net off a Dylan Budd`16 corner kick. The score at halftime was 3-0.
Hyde maintained possession during the second half, and focused on positioning and passing. Forward Aidan Bristow`16was hungry for goals, scoring two. One in the 51st minute off a Nate Smith`16 assist, and one in the 59th minute on a James Lee`15 assist. Nolan Lowder`16 scored the final Hyde goal with 3 minutes left in regulation. David Wu`15 had the assist on that goal. Other notable play came from Dow Drukker`15 who spent the second half at sweeper, also Brandon Nelson`16 who played well at stopper and Greg Kidger`17 who was in the goal for the whole game.
The opposition did a nice job of setting the offside trap. This created a match-play opportunity for the forwards and wingers to work on timing their runs and actively tuning into both their own field position, as well as that of the opposition’s defensive players field position. In addition , it afforded many starting players a chance to play initially and thereby set the tone for the match, and step back to allow teammates to come off the bench and carry the torch. Hyde coaches were pleased with the near seamless transition during substitutions, giving the team increased depth. Both teams played hard with excellent sportsmanship.
The next contest is Saturday September 27th at Gould Academy in Bethel Maine at 2:30. It promises to be a good match.
