Boys Junior Varsity Soccer vs Wheeler 9/20/14

Loss 0-6; Season Record 0-0-3

The boys junior varsity soccer team lost 0-6 against Wheeler on Saturday 20, September. Wheeler quickly established its dominance, scoring five goals in the first twenty minutes of the match before settling into a style of play to respect good sportsmanship. The Wolfpack faced an experienced, skilled team with a deep bench. First year players, Bronson Kirby ’16 and Colin Gardner ’18, garnered playing time, while Jason Ruan ’17 and Aaron Cao ’16 did their best to create offensive opportunities. The Wolfpack travels to Portsmouth Abbey on Wednesday 24, September.

Boys Junior Varsity Soccer vs Putnam Science 9/17/14

Loss 0-4; Season Record 0-0-2

In the home opener for the boys junior varsity team, the Wolfpack expected a challenging match against the experienced international students from the Putnam Science Academy. The Mustangs scored two goals off corner kicks in the first half and extended their lead in the second to defeat Hyde 0-4. Sean McKinley ‘16 played extraordinarily well in goal, making nineteen saves in the game. Aaron Cao ’16 continued to lead the defensive unit. Markus Rhyner  ’16 limited attacks on the right flank from his position as an outside midfielder. Overall, the team demonstrated success in adopting a new lineup for this game, which allowed the Wolfpack to pool its best players into a tight, defensive configuration that limited the Mustang offense. It will take more time for the rookies to develop the requisite soccer skills and understanding of team play, but players showed determination and persistence. The Wolfpack’s next game is against Wheeler on Saturday 20, September.

 

Boys Junior Varsity Soccer at Marianapolis 9/13/14

Loss 0-3; Season Record 0-0-1

In the opening match of the season, the boys junior varsity soccer team lost three to zero against Marianapolis on Saturday. For several players on the squad, the game marked their first experience in competitive soccer. Nevertheless, the Wolfpack performed well and showed promise for rapid improvement. Markus Rhyner ’16 and Aaron Cao ’16 stabilized the team’s defense, while Jason Ruan ‘17 and Jerry Wang ‘16 took advantage of their speed and generated a few shots on goal. Aaron Petion ‘17 made several terrific saves in his first game in goal, and rookies, Bronson Kirby ’16 and Colin Gardner ‘18, debuted as well. Leo Wang ’15 and Sean McKinley served as game captains and have had demonstrated leadership since preseason. The Wolfpack faces a difficult challenge against its crosstown rival, Putnam Science Academy, on Wednesday 17th at 4:00 PM (Home).
