On Saturday, April 26th, the Hyde School Track & Field team faced off against Providence Country Day and Marianapolis Preparatory School. Despite having to face continued rain and subpar weather, the Wolfpack rose to the occasion, putting in some solid efforts as their families cheered from the sidelines.
The Boys team dominated the meet, winning overall with 107 points to PCD’s 18 points and MPS’ 65 points. Rob Ficarra ’14, Marcos Mercado ’14, Felipe Azevedo ’14, and Thomas Nixon ’14 were key scorers on the team, as Ficarra placed first in the Shot Put and Discus and third in the Javelin, Mercado placed first in the Javelin and Pole Vault, Azevedo placed second in the high jump and won the 1500 and 3000 meter runs with new personal records in both, and Nixon won the 100, 110 hurdles, and 300 hurdles and was a member of the winning 4 x 100 team. Jesse McKiernan ’15 won the 800 with a new personal record and Peter Yang ’17 and Scott Leonard ’14 further added to the scoring with Yang’s first place in triple jump, second in long jump, and third in high jump and Leonard’s second place finishes in the 1500 and 3000.
The Girls team placed second in the meet with a score of 50 points to PCD’s 36 points and MPS’ 76 points. The 4 x 100 relay team had an exciting race, winning first place over MPS by two tenths of a second. Janicha Diaz ’14 put in a solid performance, placing third in the 100 hurdles and first in the 300 hurdles with a time two seconds off of the school record. Alyssa Egan ’17 and Mandy Yang ’15 both scored key points in the 1500 and 3000 meter runs. Amelia Lyle ’14 won the pole vault, but unfortunately had to end her scoring there after hurting her ankle in the event. Scoring was rounded out by Sarah Fan ’15, who placed fourth in the long jump, third in the triple jump, and fourth in the 100, Tracy He ’15 with a third place finish in the 100, Grace Briggs ’14 with a fourth place finish in the 200, and Lizzie Xu ’14 with a fourth place finish in the 800.
Overall, it was a great day out at the track. The Wolfpack would like to thank all of their families for their support and cheering!
