GLAX Demonstrates Resilience for SFW Fans

Hyde Lady Phoenix-7

Gould Academy-12

This past Saturday the 26th, the ladies of Hyde lacrosse hosted the Gould Huskies for an intense bout under a sky which could most certainly be attributed to the customary “April Showers” of coastal Maine.  Midway through an incredible Spring Family Weekend, the girls looked to provide a competitive match for all family and fans to enjoy after a morning of seminars.

Gould Academy is known to be one of the strongest teams of the league, and proved themselves through aggressive attack and a defense that wouldn’t quit.  However, the determination was visible in the eyes of the Hyde athletes and they responded with both collective synergy as well as some of the most significant showings of individual grit seen yet.  Jill Tolman ’16 had her best performance to date, with a remarkable 11 ground balls, 2 draw controls, and 4 caused turnovers. Oh right, and two goals… one of which was left handed! Captain Susanna McManus ’14 snuck in two herself, followed by underclassmen Lutes Bartlett ’16 and Emma Levensohn ’17, who each contributed vital goals late in the second half.  Captain Caroline Moore ’14 pulled more than her weight in the form of 5 draw controls and an exciting interception which helped Hyde gain momentum toward closing the gap in the second half.  Captain Cailin Darling ’14 and Rachel Wikman ’17 were defensive machines that made sure to shut down a significant percentage of Gould’s attempts and did an excellent job protecting their goalie Diamond Brown ’16. Brown had a career high of 20 saves. The girls eventually came back to tie the second half!

Look out for an exciting weekend to come, with a match against Hebron on Friday the 2nd, and Kent’s Hill Saturday the 3rd.

Vámonos Phoenix!
