The entire squad struggled to adjust to the court surface and match format.  Though we are used to playing on indoor courts, the concrete surface in what is used as the ice rink during the winter months was fast and it difficult to generate much ball kick.  Additionally, our singles players have consistently been slow starters in recent matches.  This doesn’t work well when engaged in a single 8 game pro-set.  If a player falls behind early, it is very hard to recover.  That being said, Kents Hill is a talented team and they plainly out-played us.  At times during each match there were good rallies, and certainly the Hyde players had moments of success.  No one was shutout, and many games went to deuce.  However, more often than not, we did not win the key points at key times.  It was a tough loss, but a good lesson on match preparation and the importance of mental toughness.  Our next match is against our sister school, Hyde School Woodstock, tomorrow.
