For the tenth consecutive year, Hyde School in Bath, Maine, hosted a five-day music workshop, from January 28 through Saturday, February 1. The Songwriter Workshop, designed for aspiring musicians interested in perfecting their musical craft in writing and producing, was led by a group of professionals in the music industry who are volunteering their time to work with students. The weeklong workshop culminated in a performance on Saturday, February 1, at 7 PM at The Chocolate Church in Bath.
Students from both Hyde School boarding campuses in Woodstock, Connecticut and Bath, Maine, as well as local area students participated in the workshop. The students performed original pieces they composed under the guidance of facilitators. The students used a state-of-the-art recording studio at the Hyde School remodeled thanks to the generosity of Grammy-winning recording artist and father of a Hyde graduate, Michael McDonald. The renovated studio space provides the opportunity for students to make professional quality records of their music.
Hyde music director Matt Newberg says, “We are tremendously lucky to have such a wealth of talent in our community that allows us to have people with such amazing gifts who come back and give their time and talents to our students each year. We look forward to having the students perform their original songs to an audience and it will be great to have the showcase at The Chocolate Church. It is with a lot of pride and many great memories that we reflect upon the last ten years and look forward to the many years to come, including the evolution of an intensive Songwriting Workshop that we are now offering in the summer.”
