Girls Varsity Basketball
Hyde Phoenix 19
Rangeley Lakes Lakers 60
The Hyde Phoenix traveled to Rangeley to take on the top ranked school in Class D girls basketball this past Tuesday night and were soundly defeated 60-19 by the Rangeley Lakes Lakers. The Lakers raced out to a 19-0 lead after the first quarter using an aggressive full court press and maintained intense pressure throughout the game. The Phoenix struggled to find a solution to their opponent’s defense, until late in the game when they outscored the Lakers 9-4 in the final frame paced by Sr. Carolyn Moore who scored all of her 4 points in the 4th quarter. So. Diamond Brown led the Phoenix in scoring with 9 points as Sr. Emma Leonard added 4 points of her own. The younger players on the team continue to assert themselves as they did all that they could to stand the test presented by a far more experienced opponent. Frs. Rachel Wikman and Allison Grover exemplified a “never say die” spirit and a thirst for learning the game as they played with heart and determination. So. Anna Presson continued to show grit and tenacity when she was on the court as well.
