Phoenix swimmers had a tall order on Friday with their toughest competition this season against Brunswick High School. Brunswick’s swim team boasted nearly four times as many swimmers, some of whom are ranked in the tops of New England for USA Swimming. However, our student-athletes were not fazed and got out to a fast start early.
Richard Ramirez ’15 won the 50 and 100 yard freestyle easily, improving his state qualifying mark in the 100. He anchored the Boys 200 Free relay to a first place finish with strong performances from seniors Matt Lupovich and Isaac Higgins, and new relay team member Noah Horning ’15. Lady swimmers Diana Huang ’14 and Tina Mowry ’14 improved their personal records by nearly two seconds in their respective events.
Only two swim meets remain from the Phoenix swimmers this season, not including the Maine state championships at Bowdoin College in February. Between relays and individual events, nearly the entire team has qualified and will be looking for their best finish in Hyde’s swimming history.
