Phoenix GVBB Struggles to Find Chemistry, Bottom of Net vs Islesboro

Girls Varsity Basketball

 Hyde Phoenix                     24
Islesboro Eagles                30

The Hyde Phoenix made the journey out to the island of Islesboro to take on the Eagles on Thursday evening and fell in defeat 30-24.  The Phoenix continued to struggle to find the right chemistry as well as a way to put enough points on the scoreboard to notch a victory.  Failure to  convert on free throws proved to the Achilles’ heel in this game as the Phoenix made only 1 of 9 attempts.  So. Lutes Bartlett got off to a fast start with 5 points in the first half only to cool down in the second half as she finished the game with  7 points total.  Srs. Carolyn Moore and Emma Leonard  along with So. Diamond Brown each scored 4 points per player.  Clearly, the team needs to find more offensive production moving forward.  On the flip side, the team was proud of the defensive effort overall in holding the opponent to 30 points.  The Phoenix team spent a long period of time in the locker room after the game trying to dissect the reasons for the struggle.  Players challenged each other to play with intensity and conviction for 4 quarters.  It was nice to see several players, both veterans and new players choose “truth over harmony” as they offered a wake-up call to their teammates.  The coaches replied with a resounding, “DITTO!”
