Phoenix GVB Fall to the Hawks

Girls Varsity Basketball

 Sacopee Valley Hawks    35

Hyde Phoenix                     26

Despite getting off to a fast start, the Phoenix of Hyde were unable to match the talent, depth, and endurance of the Sacopee Valley Hawks as they fell 35-26 in Hiram, Maine in front of a packed and enthusiastic Sacopee crowd.  The Hawks went on a run in the 3rd period to extend a 1 point halftime lead to 8 points going into the 4th quarter that the Lady Phoenix were unable to overcome.  Sr. Co-Captains Emma Leonard and Carolyn Moore did all they could to push their teammates to meet the challenge as both girls played their best games of the year in terms of hustle and leadership.  So. Diamond Brown returned to form as she increased her hustle and enthusiasm while tallying 6 points and playing good defense.  So. Lutes Bartlett continues to work hard on both ends of the court as she is steadily learning all of the nuances of the game of basketball.  In addition to scoring 7 points, Bartlett collected several rebounds and hustled on the defensive side of the ball.  A shout out also goes to So. Kelsey Talbutt who played her best defensive game of the year.  Talbutt’s voice could be heard throughout the gym as she fired up her teammates and called out defensive commands.  A final shout out goes to So. Anna Presson who earned several minutes of playing time based on the hard work and determination that she has been demonstrating at each and every practice.   Back to work the Hyde Phoenix shall go!
