Girls Varsity Basketball
Hyde Phoenix 34
NYA Panthers 38
Despite a 38-34 defeat to the Panthers of North Yarmouth Academy, the ladies of the Hyde Basketball team showed significant improvement and seem to be inching closer to finding victory. Led by Sr. Captain Carolyn Moore the Phoenix came on strong especially in the second half when they outscored their opponents 20-16 to almost capture victory. Moore tallied a season high of 8 points as she embraced the challenge to contribute offensively on par with the strong defense that she consistently offers. So. Lutes Bartlett turned many heads in the gym with her impressive play as she led all Phoenix scorers with 9 points. Another highlight of this game was turned in by steadily improving So. Kristine Bailey. Bailey was not content with just scoring her first varsity basket ever, so she proceeded to the free throw line where she converted on both of her shots and finished the game with 4 points. Once again, the player who contributed the greatest threat from the perimeter was Sr. Co-Captain Emma Leonard as she equaled a season high of 8 points. It was nice to welcome the remaining players back to the team who had been delayed in travel due to the weather. Fr. Emma Dubrovsky returned to the lineup to offer some backup relief to the guards and converted on 1 of 2 free throws. So. Kelsey Talbutt and Fr. Allison Grover also continue to contribute minutes to the team on the court as they continue to develop their individual skills. In the end, the coaches were pleased with the overall effort displayed by the Phoenix in this game, and we all remain positive that good things will come to us as long as we keep working hard, and if we can get all of the individual parts functioning as a team.
