Hyde Girls JV Basketball vs. Mariannapolis Prep School
Monday December 9th, the Hyde girls junior varsity basketball team hosted its first home game against Mariannapolis prep school. The first half started with Hyde quickly falling behind Marianapolis’ strong offense and well practiced defense. Hyde’s lack of experience with the sport was unable to compete with the skill and background of the opponent. Despite this, the Hyde girls played hard and were able to make the opportunity for Joanna Ren ’16 to score a basket and finish the first half with a score of 2-22. A quick talk at the half helped Hyde improve their positioning on the court and work on breaking down the Marianapolis’ defense. The second half of the game showed Hyde’s grit in sticking with the other team, however a lack of substitutions left Hyde lagging behind. Strong play by Ren, Naiwen Zhang ’14, Joyce Zhang ’16, and Julie Arthin ’15 throughout the game helped the team stay motivated despite falling to Marannapolis 2-46. They look forward to having some time to improve their skills before their next game after the winter break.
