Kent’s Hill 35 Hyde 22
The Hyde Phoenix stepped up in class on Monday to take on the visiting Huskies from Kent’s Hill but lost35-22, dropping their record to 1-2 on the young season. The Huskies are a strong Class C team that features a great deal of depth and talent, and the Phoenix struggled to overcome the Husky challenge. Collectively, the girls recognized the strength of their opponents, but they also acknowledged their own accountability in failing to bring the best level of intensity and confidence that they could. Sr. Captains Emma Leonard and Carolyn Moore took the lead in the locker room after the loss as they urged the team to play each and every game with 100 % focus and intensity to give themselves their best chance for success. Game highlights included Fr. Cherry Weng scoring her first ever basket, and Fr. Allison Groverplaying excellent girl to girl defense on Kent’s Hill’s best player, Sr. Sarah Grenies. Grenies had scored 13 of her game high 16 points in the first half, but she was limited to just 3 points in the second half once Grover was assigned to shut her down. The Phoenix will return to practice and get back to work as they anticipate the long season ahead of them and the opportunities for growth and redemption.
Happy Holidays and see you all courtside in 2014!
