This past Saturday, the JV Wrestling team traveled to Belmont Hill School outside of Boston for a meet with Belmont Hill, Milton Academy, and Tabor Academy. Many of the boys were new to wrestling and a little nervous when they hit the mat. The Hyde JV wrestlers started the day off against Tabor Academy, a skilled team with much more experience. But sophomore Jason Tang ’16 came out ready for battle and would end up beating his opponent by pin in Hyde’s first match of the day. Tang ’16 also had a great second match, going for three rounds, but losing by a score of 2-1. Tenzin Crane ’16 also had a great afternoon of wrestling. Crane ’16 beat both of his opponents from Tabor and Milton with pins in the second and first rounds, respectively.
New wrestler, junior Ryan Moran ’15, came out aggressive and ready in both of his matches. Moran ’15 would out-muscle both of his opponents and win by pin, going unbeaten on the day. Sophomore Ross Ji ’16 was also a highlight for the day. Ji ’16 won his first match against Tabor Academy with a pin, and then would execute a textbook half-nelson against his Milton opponent and a pin for the win. Evan Davis ’17 had a great day of wrestling, going full three rounds in both of his matches. Davis ’17 would lose his first by a score of 6-2, but would bounce back in his second match beating his opposition 2-1. Alyemeni ’16 lasted three rounds in his first ever match, eventually being pinned in the third round. Alexy Billon ’14 battled two tough, experienced opponents and put up great effort and gave them both a good fight. Newcomers Weng ’17, Wu ’16, Drukker ’15, Jones ’17, and Liu ’16 all gave great effort and gained valuable experience in some of their first matches. Drukker ’15 would also get his first victory with a pin in the first round over his Milton opponent.
The JV Phoenix had a great afternoon at Belmont Hill, cheering each other on, giving their best efforts, and building team camaraderie. The afternoon was filled with many learning experiences for all wrestlers new and seasoned. The team continues to learn and work hard, and will be getting ready for their upcoming meet on Saturday the 14th at St. Paul’s School.
