The Phoenix swimmers dove into the first meet of the winter season on Saturday December 7 at the Wiscasset Community Center. Scoring 30 points total, Hyde Swimming fell to Cony High School, which had a team of twice Hyde’s size.
With a mix of veteran and emerging swimmers, our first meet was a formative experience for the entire team. Boys 200 Medley Relay, consisting of Rich Ramirez ‘15, Burke Riley ‘15, Isaac Higgins ‘14, and Jamie Lynch ‘15, placed first with a time of 2:08.28. Ramirez qualified for states with a time of 24.82 in 50 Free, while his teammate Riley qualified for states as well with a time of 1:08.77 in 100 Butterfly. Tina Mowry ’14 finished strong in 50 Free and came in first for her heat.
In the coming week the team will be working on turns, starts, and endurance. Our team of 12 have been practicing with 9 swimmers from Wiscasset High School. We look forward to working hard together and bonding as a team as we head into the season. Next Tuesday Hyde Swimming will have our first away meet in Lewiston.
