This year’s Hyde-Bath Indoor Track team is the largest squad ever… currently 32 athletes. Some students are track veterans and others are new to the sport. Along with our first traditional meet isn’t until this Wednesday against Phillips Andover (Andover, MA), this year’s program will once again participate in the Western Maine Athletic Conference (public school league). This gives us highly competitive meets every Friday beginning in January and an opportunity for individuals and the team to qualify for the state public school indoor championships. Our schedule also includes the Maine USATF Indoor championship in February.
Hyde’s Indoor Track program began its season on Sunday by running in the 5K Jungle bells Run for Arthritis in Freeport, ME. Temperatures hovered in the low 30’s but the skies were clear and sunny. Overall, there were 481 competitors in this year’s run. I was delighted with our performances. Strong finishes included…
- 5th place finish by Alex Greenberg `15… first place in his age group division
- 15th place by Richard Liu `14… Richard finished 47th last year.
- Other top 50 finishers included Griffin Palola-Harriman `14 (39th), Ben Mooney `16 (41st), Max Kaplan `15 (43rd).
- Our top females of the day were Xi Wang `14 (53rd… she finished 109th last year), Julia Jackson `14 (66th… she finished 152nd last year), Avery Booth `15 (114th) and Jill Tolman (121st).
