It is with tremendous sadness that we inform you of a great tragedy that has impacted the entire Hyde community. A pillar of Hyde School, Paul Hurd ’67, was involved in a fatal car crash on Wednesday, November 13th just minutes from the Bath campus. Paul is survived by his loving wife, Laurie, and devoted children Zach, Georgia, and Meredith.
Perhaps no one is more synonymous with Hyde School than Paul Hurd. As one of Hyde’s first graduates, Paul dedicated nearly his entire professional career to educating kids and developing their character within these hallowed gates at 616 High Street. Having worn just about every hat at Hyde, including Head of School, teacher, coach, pioneer, and mentor, Paul has left an indelible mark on Hyde School.
While funeral arrangements are being worked out, it is important during this difficult time we reach out to support one another. Our student body, faculty, and staff will have the opportunity to speak with mental health professionals and bereavement counselors to help process this tragic loss.
Paul’s loss will undoubtedly leave a huge hole in each of our hearts. Knowing Paul, however, he is the kind of man who would want his life to be celebrated. On behalf of so many grateful students, parents, and colleagues, Paul will be sorely missed, and his legacy will not be soon forgotten.
