Phoenix Girls Varsity Soccer Beats Woodstock Sister School 5-2

October 19, 2013

Hyde Bath – 5

Hyde Woodstock – 2

The Phoenix travelled to Woodstock to play the Wolfpack during their fall family weekend.  Perhaps due to the long ride, the Phoenix came out flat and gave up two goals early in the first half.  The team rallied after striker Olivia Griffing ’14 scored the team’s first goal, followed by Julia Jackson’s ’14equalizing goal only three minutes later.  Despite renewed confidence and motivation the game remained tied at 2-2 as the first half came to a close.

Both would go on to score another goal apiece during the Phoenix dominated second half.  Outside backs Ferina Li ’14 and Jill Tolman ’16played outstanding defense turning back Woodstock’s strikers with confidence and composure.  After controlling the second half, freshman Rachel Wikman ’17 scored the final goal with only 5 seconds remaining on the clock.  It was a beautiful volley from an equally well struck corner kick from senior captain Carolyn Moore ’14.
