HYDE SCHOOL GIRLS’ VARSITY SOCCER
October 26, 2013
Hyde – 0
Gould Academy – 4
The Hyde girls were prepared for a tough match against Gould on home turf over family weekend, having fallen 3-0 earlier in the season. With a home field advantage and fans on the sidelines they were ready to fight for a different result. The first half was an even battle with both teams creating scoring opportunities. Unfortunately, Gould was able to capitalize on a breakaway through ball and despite a hard effort off the line from Hope Stinson ’14, Gould’s talented striker found the net. Hyde’s defense was led by sweeper Emma Leonard ’14 who slowed the Gould offense. Marking backs Jill Tolman ’16 and Sonya Kobayashi ’14 worked incredibly hard against quick marks. The first half ended 1-0 in favor of Gould.
After the half time break, the Hyde team returned determined but were unable to finish. Olivia Griffing ’14 and Carolyn Moore ’14 each had a few good scoring opportunities that went just wide. Gould’s top striker would go one to score two more goals and help create a fourth when a loose ball was knocked past Hyde’s keeper. The game’s final result didn’t reflect the hard effort the Hyde team turned in or the competitive nature of the match.
