Hyde School 1
Gould Academy 0
Gould Academy traveled to Bath to play a match on Hyde School’s turf field. The game was played under partly cloudy skies, light winds and cool temperatures.
The Hyde Phoenix controlled the pace and maintained possession for much of the first fifteen minutes of the match. Attacking players Aidan Dorvee`15 and Wilson MacMillan`14 had some good chances on goal early on. The only goal of the match came in the 27th minute. Kiefer Cundy`15 took a corner kick from the right side. He put the ball into play in the box, but it was defended and ultimately was played back out toCundy`15 on a pass from Wes Miller`14. Cundy`15, now inbounds, and in a good offensive position, crossed in a beautifully flighted ball to the far post. Wilson MacMillan`14 smartly read the incoming ball and timed his run to execute a perfectly placed header to score. Gould had some chances on goal late in the first half, one the result of a free kick just outside the box. They were unable to convert however, due to stellar goalkeeping byNoah Horning`15.
The second half was intense, with both teams having numerous shots on goal. Neither team developed sustained momentum and the game was back and forth for most of the half. In the end, the resulting victory can be credited to the Phoenix playing together as a team to defend their goal, and more importantly; fighting to get to every ball. It was a scrappy match by all accounts. The final regular season game is tomorrow against Hebron at home.
