Kents Hill: 3
A brisk, overcast Maine day saw the Phoenix of Hyde take on the Huskies of Kent’s Hill. The JV Hyde Phoenix were eager to bounce back against a Kent’s Hill team that bested them a few weeks prior. Hyde came out strong, playing physical and aggressive throughout the first half. Teo Meyerhoff ’14played physical and tough for the Phoenix throughout the entire game at the forward position. Meyerhoff made offensive movement that would allow his team to have a few good chances on the Huskie goalkeeper. Meanwhile, at the other end of the pitch, Hyde’s defense was holding steady. Lead by David Wu ’15, the Phoenix would not allow many good looks at goal. Goalkeeper Evan Davis ’17 pitched a first half shut-out, being aggressive off his line and stopping all shots from Kent’s Hill. The teams would enter the half level at 0-0.
In the second half, the JV Phoenix came out as the aggressor, running through tackles and not playing scared. The teams would battle back and forth for the first fifteen minutes of play in the second half. Kent’s Hill would eventually break the deadlock and score their first goal with 25 minutes left to play. And in typical soccer fashion, the goals came in bunches. The Huskies would knock in two more goals in the next 5 minutes. Hyde trailed 3-0 with 20 minutes left on the clock. The Phoenix would not get discouraged though, Alec Chapman ’17 and Chris Lutts ’15 continued to play solid defense in the backfield. Evans Kegame ’16 and James Lee ’15 played reliable roles at their midfield positions. Unfortunately, the Phoenix could not piece together any threatening offensive attacks and the buzzer would sound with Hyde behind 3-0.
The JV Phoenix played a tough match in which they had some unlucky bounces that didn’t quiet go their way. The Phoenix look to bounce back after a disappointing defeat when they face Gould Academy this Saturday during Family Weekend.
