Big Win for Phoenix BVS in Kents Hill Battle, 2-0

Hyde School                       2

Kents Hill School               0

Boys Varsity Soccer traveled to Kents Hill Maine to play Kents Hill School yesterday.  The match was played on artificial turf under partly cloudy skies and cool temperatures.

The first half of the game was back and forth, with both teams having chances on goal.  Hyde outshot the opponent, but both teams failed to find the back of the net in the first 45 minutes of play.

Hyde made a couple of tactical adjustments for the second half.  Chris Baldwin`16 came in as a winger on the left and Ben Mooney`16 joined Wilson MacMillan`14 up top as striker.  This proved to be the move needed to tip the scales in Hyde’s favor.  In the 58th minute Wilson MacMillan`14 worked the ball into the box and made a shot on goal that the keeper saved.  Ben Mooney`16gobbled up the ball off the keepers save and put it away to score the first goal of the match.  In the 70th minute, Andrew Davis`15worked the ball up the right flank from the back field and crossed a beautiful ball in to Wilson MacMillan`14 who timed his run perfectly and scored on a header.  Other notable play came from center midfielders; Kiefer Cundy`15 and Cole Faulkner`15, who did a great job of possessing the ball through the middle third of the field and creating useful through balls for the attacking player.  Keeper Noah Horning`15 also had a solid game, keeping the sheet clean and earning another shutout.  Our next game is tomorrow against Bridgton Academy at home on the turf field.
