Missing a Tail Feather: Phoenix Cross Country Take 2nd at Hebron Academy

On October 19th, Hyde Phoenix returned to Hebron Academy after three weeks for the second meet this year at the Lumberjack’s course in the woods. Outdistancing the Phoenix by one point, Gould Academy with a team score of 35 points snapped a win streak from Hyde this season.

Hyde placed three runners in top five. Alex Greenberg ’15 (3rd overall- 18:58), Isaac Preston (4th overall- 19:22), and Warsame Mohamed ‘14 (5th overall- 20:02) came in as a three-pack after Gould runner Henry Smithers and Hebron’s Makoto Wanatabe. Gould’s four-pack that finished 7th through 10th overall resulted in Hyde falling short of winning by the slimmest margin. Richard Liu ’14 (21:09) finished fourth for Hyde and 11th overall while Matt Lupovich ’14 (21:35), dropped an impressive 3 minutes and 17 seconds from three weeks ago on the same course, closed the door for the Phoenix.

With the most improved time on JV, Dean Tian ’15 (26:23) beat his time on Hebron’s course by 2 minutes 32 seconds. Darvin Anderson ’14 (26:06) and Zach Brandeis ’14 (23:14) continued to push for personal bests.

Breaking the 25-minute mark for the first time, Wang Xi ‘14 had a strong finish and placed 4th overall for girl’s cross-country with a time of 24:55. Julie Boutboul ’14 improved 47 seconds from the last time she ran the Hebron course.
