Phoenix Girl Varsity Soccer Dominates Dublin in Epping NH Outing

Girls Varsity Soccer vs. Dublin

 October 9, 2013

 Hyde – 2
Dublin – 0

The Phoenix girls traveled to neutral territory in Epping, NH to face Dublin for the first time in recent memory.  The team was eager to continue their positive momentum and didn’t know what to expect of their opponent.  Dublin did their best to put up a fight, but the game was dominated by Hyde from the opening whistle.  Mid-fielders Julia Jaskson ’14 and Carolyn Moore ’14 had come to play, commanding the mid-field and leading the offensive play.  Despite constant pressure, Hyde’s first goal came mid-way through the first half on a well struck shot by striker Olivia Griffing ’14 from just outside the goal area.  Dublin’s strikers were quick and managed to muster two breakaways to goal, both of which senior keeper Hope Stinson ’14 expertly saved.  The Phoenix continued to shoot and dominate play but were unable to score again, ending the first half at 1-0.

With renewed intensity at the opening of the second half, the ball seldom found its way off of Dublin’s side of the field.  Hyde peppered the net with 11 shots but only scored once more off a corner kick from Carolyn Moore ’14.  Stand out defense was played bySonya Kobayashi ’14, along with Jill Tolman ‘16 and Cailin Darling ’14.  The player of the day was Olivia Griffing ’14 whose intensity was never less than 100 percent while continuously setting up her teammates with scoring opportunities.
