GIRLS VARSITY SOCCER
October 4, 2013
Hyde – 0
Kent’s Hill – 0
It was a welcomed return to form as the Hyde girls soccer team played Kents Hill for the second time of the season. The team found the same spirit they displayed during their first two games of the season and hadn’t repeated since. Senior goalkeeper Hope Stinson ’14 was out due to injury when the Phoenix last faced the Huskies and played an absolutely outstanding game this go around. New recruit Rachel Wikman ’17 had a great opportunity early in the first half when a well struck shot went just wide of the Kents Hill goal. Despite pressure at both ends, the first half ended scoreless. Both teams took the field with renewed energy and the battle raged on during the second half. Emma Leonard ’14 stood in at sweeper and did an excellent job in the new position, while Jill Tolman ’16 shut down one of the league’s most talented players as a marking back. Perhaps most noticeable was the heart the girls exhibited while winning loose balls and generating offensive pressure. The Phoenix hope to keep the momentum building to their first win of the season.
