Boys Varsity Soccer

September 25, 2013

Final Score:

Hyde 3– 5 Putnam Science

Hyde looked to notch it first win of the season against a very solid Putnam Science squad. In a very exciting game that looked like the Wolfpack would earn their first Win, Hyde eventually fell by a score of 5-3. The boys opened the game with high intensity and aggression which led to a quick 2-0 lead by the Wolfpack. Feda Durisic ’14 tallied the first 2 goals of the match with very nice finishes. Offensively, Putnam Science was shut down due to the strong defensive play of Dawit Kiflemariam ’15. Their strikers and midfielders had a hard time possessing the ball and creating dangerous chances because he was quick to pressure and disarm any attack. The Wolfpack would go into halftime with a 2-1 lead after a defensive mistake cost them a goal with 6 minutes to go in the half. In the second half, Hyde continued to work hard and play with high intensity. Not long into the half, Putnam Science was awarded a penalty kick which they capitalized on and knotted the game up at 2. Shortly after the penalty kick, Putnam would score again and take the lead despite being outworked by the Wolfpack. Felipe Azevedo ’14 would add Hyde’s last goal of the day on a nice strike that beat the keeper to his upper right hand corner. Despite the loss, Hyde was very optimistic about their performance. They controlled the pace and tone of the game and collectively played extremely hard. Joey Burns ’14 and Johnny Schaer ’14 also contributed with very dominate and hard fought play.
