Girls JV Soccer vs Kents Hill
The girls JV soccer squad headed north to Kent’s Hill this past Saturday for what was set to be one of the closest match ups of the season. After a morning of classes and SAT test taking for a handful of the players, there was definite buzz in the air and sense of relief to get out into the fresh air and onto the pitch.
Due to a few reconfigurations done between JV and Varsity, the JV team consisted of a slightly different set of players than in games prior and the girls needed to find a way to find a sense of synergy despite said changes. Additionally, the Huskies did not have enough players to field a complete team so both teams played down, 9 versus 9. Hyde would need to maintain their positions and move the ball down the field effectively in order to do their best under the given circumstances.
The first half was tough as the Huskies came out strong with impressive break-aways and a strong defensive wall. However, Hyde wing defenders Cherry Weng ’17 and Pierce Tricarico ’15 showed exceptional hustle and held down Hyde’s half of the field protecting the net at all costs. Keeper Diamond Brown ’16 did all she could to prevent the Huskies from scoring, sacrificing her body to the ground on numerous occasions, but there was no stopping a strike to the upper left 90 in the 12 minute of play that was just out of her grasp. Emma Dubrovsky ‘16 could be seen all over the field and contributed the sole Hyde goal off a free kick just outside of the 18 in what was her JV debut. Alas, the Huskies proved to be the more ferocious competitor in this match and took control of the game by the beginning of the second half. The Hyde girls were complimented on their demonstration of stellar sportsmanship by the Kent’s Hill coaches upon completion of the game.
The girls will be working on give and go’s as well as other effective passing tactics this coming week in order to have a more successful match against Fryburg Academy this Wednesday, October 9th.
